Valiya Hosn Jahan

Valiya, Husn Jahan Khanum (fl. nineteenth century), daughter of the Qajar Fath’ali Shah. A poetess bearing the title Valiya  whose mother, Fatima, was known as Sunbul Khanum. Walia was married to Khusraw Khan, the governor of Kurdistan. Following the demise of her husband in 1834, she served as the vicegerent of her children. A talented poetess, she followed the Sufi path. She lived to the middle of the reign of Nasir al-Din Shah (1846-1895). Her divan of poetry is extant and according to al-Dhari’a comprises 80 ghazals. Her other work is the poetical composition entitled Bisat-i Nishat.
