Adib al-Sultana Sami’i (Vizir-i Reza Shah)
Adib al-Saltana Sami'i, son of Mirza Hasan Khan (1876-1953). A poet and belletrist whose nom de plume was 'Ata ("Gift"). He was born in Rasht. Having completed his education in Tehran and Kermanshah, he attended the teaching sessions held by Abu 'l-Fuqara' Isfahani and Mirza Salik Kirmanshahi and later assumed offices serving as director of interior and foreign ministries, Majlis deputy, vice-chancellor, governor of Tehran, and head of the Pahlavi court. He was also the president of the Literary Academy. His works include: Risala-yi Jan-i Kalam ("Treatise of the Heart of the Matter"); Risala-yi Dastur-i Zaban-i Farsi ("Treatise on Persian Grammar"); Arizu-yi Bashar, Shi'r ("Desire of Humanity, a Poem"); A'in-i Nigarish ("A Manual of Writing"); Jami'at al-Hayawanat, Shi'r ("The Society of Animals, a poem"); Khwaharan ("Sisters"); Tarjuma-yi Tarikh-i Afghanistan ("Translation of the History of Afghanistan") by Sayyid Jamal al-Din Asadabadi, from Arabic into Persian; Divan-i Ash'ar ("Collected porms"); the verse entitled Siyasat ("Politics") in Arabic.
