Sayyida Bigum Malik

Sayyida Beygum, Shah Malik (b. 1555), daughter of Hasan. A poetess with the nom de plume Malik. She was a daughter of Sultan Hasan II, a Shi’i Karkiya ruler in Gilan. Some biographical sources erroneously report that she was a daughter of Sayyid Nasir, a Sayyid from Gurgan and a contemporary of Rashid Vatwat. The author of Tadhkira-yi Jawahir al-‘Aja’ib writes, ‘Her poetical style is exquisitely delicate and refined … and she is a princess of poets at the time.’ Her divan of poetry is extant.
