Sayyida Hur al-Nisa (Masturih or Bibi Safid-)
Mastura Ghuri, Hur al-Nisa’ (1796-1829), daughter of Mir Sayyid A’zam. An afghan poetess born in the village of Parchaman, Ghur, in Southwest of Ghaznin, Afghanistan. She never married. Her divan, entitled Tuhfat al-‘Ashiqin wa Mufarrih al-Muslimin, runs to 3,500 couplets. The following lines are by her:
The hearts of the lovers, drunken, dance around your countenance,
Aye, when the candle is lit it is encircles by lines of dancing moths.
Divine rays of light have encompassed everywhere,
One is dancing in the mosque, another in the tavern.
As if the painter painted you in the house of the idols,
That I see the idols and the house of idolatry dance out of love for you.
