A descendant of Ghiyas al-Din Tabrizi, he hailed from Mihran Rud, Tabriz. He was well-versed in the scribal profession, mathematics and astronomy. He also composed poetry. As a young man, he served two years in Baghdad as minister to Ghazi Khan Takalu Muhrdarf, a post which he subsequently held jointly with Khwaja Ghiyas al-Din 'Ali Shirazi, in the court of Shah Tahmasb. He was imprisoned in 1550 on the charge of heresy. After his release, he was once again imprisoned in the fortress of Alamut, where he died in 1575. The following verses are by him:

No one has sat by me who has not arisen weeping;

Wherever I’ve wept in yearning for You a storm has arisen.

The water and earth of the world have been placed in one’s hands;

Sow seeds such that you may harvest well.
