Abu Turab Big Furqati

Furqati, Abu Turab Beyg, a poet hailing from Anjidan who was brought up in Kashan and became well-known later by the appellation Kashi. He was the deputy of Maqsud Beyg, the supervisor of royal estates. Furqati was well-versed in the art of poetry and his diwan includes 1,000 couplets. The following couplets are by him:

Misfortune cannot exceed further

That other people’s get together is illumined by my light.

He who picks a flower from the garden and adorns his hair wherewith,

The spirit of a nightingale flutters around him.

I wandered in your quarters all night in distraught,

To return desperately in the morn like an unanswered prayer.
